الٓرٰ ۫—

Alif Laam Ra.
ت-ل-ك

تِلۡكَ
تِلْكَ
til'ka
These
ا-ي-ا
![]()
ءَايَٰتُ
اٰیٰتُ
āyātu
(are the) Verses
ك-ت-ب
![]()
ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ
الْكِتٰبِ
l-kitābi
(of) the Book
ب-ي-ن
![]()
ٱلۡمُبِينِ
الْمُبِیْنِ
l-mubīni
[the] clear.
A.L.R.: Those are signs of the Open Book.

ا-ن-ن

إِنَّآ
اِنَّاۤ
innā
Indeed, We,
ن-ز-ل
![]()
أَنزَلۡنَٰهُ
اَنْزَلْنٰهُ
anzalnāhu
We have sent it down,
ق-ر-ا
![]()
قُرۡءَٰنًا
قُرْءٰنًا
qur'ānan
(as) a Quran in Arabic
ع-ر-ب

عَرَبِيّٗا
عَرَبِیًّا
ʿarabiyyan
(as) a Quran in Arabic
ل-ع-ل-ل
![]()
لَّعَلَّكُمۡ
لَّعَلَّكُمْ
laʿallakum
so that you may
ع-ق-ل
![]()
تَعۡقِلُونَ
تَعْقِلُوْنَ
taʿqilūna
understand.
We revealed it as an Arabic recital so that you would understand.

to you
ح-س-ن

أَحۡسَنَ
اَحْسَنَ
aḥsana
the best
ق-ص-ص

ٱلۡقَصَصِ
الْقَصَصِ
l-qaṣaṣi
of the narrations
ب-م-ا

بِمَآ
بِمَاۤ
bimā
in what
و-ح-ي
![]()
أَوۡحَيۡنَآ
اَوْحَیْنَاۤ
awḥaynā
We have revealed
ا-ل-ي
![]()
إِلَيۡكَ
اِلَیْكَ
ilayka
to you
ه-ا-ذ
![]()
هَٰذَا
هٰذَا
hādhā
(of) this
ق-ر-ا
![]()
ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ
الْقُرْاٰنَ ۖۗ—
l-qur'āna
the Quran,
ا-ن

وَإِن
وَاِنْ
wa-in
although
ك-و-ن
![]()
كُنتَ
كُنْتَ
kunta
you were,
م-ن
![]()
مِن
مِنْ
min
before it,
ق-ب-ل
![]()
قَبۡلِهِۦ
قَبْلِهٖ
qablihi
before it,
م-ن
![]()
لَمِنَ
لَمِنَ
lamina
surely among
غ-ف-ل
![]()
ٱلۡغَٰفِلِينَ
الْغٰفِلِیْنَ
l-ghāfilīna
the unaware.
We tell you the best of stories in revealing this Recital to you in spite of your former ignorance.

to his father,
ا-ب-و

يَٰٓأَبَتِ
یٰۤاَبَتِ
yāabati
"O my father!
ا-ن-ن

إِنِّي
اِنِّیْ
innī
Indeed, I
ر-ا-ي
![]()
رَأَيۡتُ
رَاَیْتُ
ra-aytu
I saw
ا-ح-د
![]()
أَحَدَ
اَحَدَ
aḥada
eleven
ع-ش-ر
![]()
عَشَرَ
عَشَرَ
ʿashara
eleven
ك-و-ك-ب
![]()
كَوۡكَبٗا
كَوْكَبًا
kawkaban
star(s)
ش-م-س
![]()
وَٱلشَّمۡسَ
وَّالشَّمْسَ
wash-shamsa
and the sun
ق-م-ر
![]()
وَٱلۡقَمَرَ
وَالْقَمَرَ
wal-qamara
and the moon;
ر-ا-ي
![]()
رَأَيۡتُهُمۡ
رَاَیْتُهُمْ
ra-aytuhum
I saw them
ل
![]()
لِي
لِیْ
lī
to me
س-ج-د
![]()
سَٰجِدِينَ
سٰجِدِیْنَ
sājidīna
prostrating."
Joseph said to his father, “I saw eleven stars, father, and the sun and the moon; I saw them bowing to me.”

He said,

يَٰبُنَيَّ
یٰبُنَیَّ
yābunayya
"O my son!
ل-ا

لَا
لَا
lā
(Do) not
ق-ص-ص
![]()
تَقۡصُصۡ
تَقْصُصْ
taqṣuṣ
relate
ر-ا-ي
![]()
رُءۡيَاكَ
رُءْیَاكَ
ru'yāka
your vision
ع-ل-ي
![]()
عَلَىٰٓ
عَلٰۤی
ʿalā
to
ا-خ-و
![]()
إِخۡوَتِكَ
اِخْوَتِكَ
ikh'watika
your brothers
ك-ي-د
![]()
فَيَكِيدُواْ
فَیَكِیْدُوْا
fayakīdū
lest they plan
ل
![]()
لَكَ
لَكَ
laka
against you
ك-ي-د
![]()
كَيۡدًاۖ
كَیْدًا ؕ—
kaydan
a plot.
ا-ن-ن
![]()
إِنَّ
اِنَّ
inna
Indeed,
ش-ط-ن
![]()
ٱلشَّيۡطَٰنَ
الشَّیْطٰنَ
sh-shayṭāna
the Shaitaan
ا-ن-س
![]()
لِلۡإِنسَٰنِ
لِلْاِنْسَانِ
lil'insāni
(is) to man
ع-د-و
![]()
عَدُوّٞ
عَدُوٌّ
ʿaduwwun
an enemy
ب-ي-ن
![]()
مُّبِينٞ
مُّبِیْنٌ
mubīnun
open.
He said, “Don’t tell your brothers of your vision, son, lest they plot a scheme against you; for Satan is an open enemy to the human being.

وَكَذَٰلِكَ
وَكَذٰلِكَ
wakadhālika
And thus
ج-ب-ي

يَجۡتَبِيكَ
یَجْتَبِیْكَ
yajtabīka
will choose you
ر-ب-ب
![]()
رَبُّكَ
رَبُّكَ
rabbuka
your Lord
ع-ل-م
![]()
وَيُعَلِّمُكَ
وَیُعَلِّمُكَ
wayuʿallimuka
and will teach you
م-ن
![]()
مِن
مِنْ
min
of
ا-و-ل
![]()
تَأۡوِيلِ
تَاْوِیْلِ
tawīli
(the) interpretation
ح-د-ث
![]()
ٱلۡأَحَادِيثِ
الْاَحَادِیْثِ
l-aḥādīthi
(of) the narratives
ت-م-م
![]()
وَيُتِمُّ
وَیُتِمُّ
wayutimmu
and complete
ن-ع-م
![]()
نِعۡمَتَهُۥ
نِعْمَتَهٗ
niʿ'matahu
His Favor
ع-ل-ي

عَلَيۡكَ
عَلَیْكَ
ʿalayka
on you
ع-ل-ي
![]()
وَعَلَىٰٓ
وَعَلٰۤی
waʿalā
and on
ا-و-ل
![]()
ءَالِ
اٰلِ
āli
(the) family
ي-ع-ق
![]()
يَعۡقُوبَ
یَعْقُوْبَ
yaʿqūba
(of) Yaqub
ك-م-ا
![]()
كَمَآ
كَمَاۤ
kamā
as
ت-م-م
![]()
أَتَمَّهَا
اَتَمَّهَا
atammahā
He completed it
ع-ل-ي
![]()
عَلَىٰٓ
عَلٰۤی
ʿalā
on
ا-ب-و
![]()
أَبَوَيۡكَ
اَبَوَیْكَ
abawayka
your two forefathers
م-ن
![]()
مِن
مِنْ
min
before -
ق-ب-ل
![]()
قَبۡلُ
قَبْلُ
qablu
before -
ا-ب-ر
![]()
إِبۡرَٰهِيمَ
اِبْرٰهِیْمَ
ib'rāhīma
Ibrahim
س-ح-ق
![]()
وَإِسۡحَٰقَۚ
وَاِسْحٰقَ ؕ—
wa-is'ḥāqa
and Ishaq.
ا-ن-ن
![]()
إِنَّ
اِنَّ
inna
Indeed,
ر-ب-ب
![]()
رَبَّكَ
رَبَّكَ
rabbaka
your Lord
ع-ل-م
![]()
عَلِيمٌ
عَلِیْمٌ
ʿalīmun
(is) All-Knower,
ح-ك-م
![]()
حَكِيمٞ
حَكِیْمٌ
ḥakīmun
All-Wise."
“This is how your Lord chooses you and teaches you interpretation of stories, and fulfills the divine favor on you and on the family of Jacob, as God fulfilled it on your ancestors before, Abraham and Isaac. For your Lord is all-knowing, most wise.”

وَاِخْوَتِهٖۤ
wa-ikh'watihi
and his brothers
ا-ي-ا

ءَايَٰتٞ
اٰیٰتٌ
āyātun
signs
س-ا-ل
![]()
لِّلسَّآئِلِينَ
لِّلسَّآىِٕلِیْنَ
lilssāilīna
for those who ask.
In Joseph and his brothers are signs for seekers.

"Surely Yusuf
ا-خ-و

وَأَخُوهُ
وَاَخُوْهُ
wa-akhūhu
and his brother
ح-ب-ب
![]()
أَحَبُّ
اَحَبُّ
aḥabbu
(are) more beloved
ا-ل-ي
![]()
إِلَىٰٓ
اِلٰۤی
ilā
to
ا-ب-و
![]()
أَبِينَا
اَبِیْنَا
abīnā
our father
م-ن
![]()
مِنَّا
مِنَّا
minnā
than we,
ن-ح-ن
![]()
وَنَحۡنُ
وَنَحْنُ
wanaḥnu
while we
ع-ص-ب
![]()
عُصۡبَةٌ
عُصْبَةٌ ؕ—
ʿuṣ'batun
(are) a group.
ا-ن-ن
![]()
إِنَّ
اِنَّ
inna
Indeed,
ا-ب-و
![]()
أَبَانَا
اَبَانَا
abānā
our father
ف-ي
![]()
لَفِي
لَفِیْ
lafī
(is) surely in
ض-ل-ل
![]()
ضَلَٰلٖ
ضَلٰلٍ
ḍalālin
an error
ب-ي-ن
![]()
مُّبِينٍ
مُّبِیْنِ
mubīnin
clear.
They said, “Joseph and his brother are dearer to our father than we, and we are a group; our father is in evident error.

أَرۡضٗا
اَرْضًا
arḍan
(to) a land
خ-ل-و
![]()
يَخۡلُ
یَّخْلُ
yakhlu
so will be free
ل
![]()
لَكُمۡ
لَكُمْ
lakum
for you
و-ج-ه
![]()
وَجۡهُ
وَجْهُ
wajhu
(the) face
ا-ب-و
![]()
أَبِيكُمۡ
اَبِیْكُمْ
abīkum
(of) your father,
ك-و-ن
![]()
وَتَكُونُواْ
وَتَكُوْنُوْا
watakūnū
and you will be
م-ن
![]()
مِنۢ
مِنْ
min
after that
ب-ع-د
![]()
بَعۡدِهِۦ
بَعْدِهٖ
baʿdihi
after that
ق-و-م
![]()
قَوۡمٗا
قَوْمًا
qawman
a people
ص-ل-ح
![]()
صَٰلِحِينَ
صٰلِحِیْنَ
ṣāliḥīna
righteous."
“Kill Joseph, or exile him, that your father may give his attention to you, and after that you will be decent people.”

تَقۡتُلُواْ
تَقْتُلُوْا
taqtulū
kill
ي-س-ف

يُوسُفَ
یُوْسُفَ
yūsufa
Yusuf
ل-ق-ي
![]()
وَأَلۡقُوهُ
وَاَلْقُوْهُ
wa-alqūhu
but throw
ف-ي
![]()
فِي
فِیْ
fī
in
غ-ي-ب
![]()
غَيَٰبَتِ
غَیٰبَتِ
ghayābati
the bottom
ج-ب-ب
![]()
ٱلۡجُبِّ
الْجُبِّ
l-jubi
(of) the well,
ل-ق-ط
![]()
يَلۡتَقِطۡهُ
یَلْتَقِطْهُ
yaltaqiṭ'hu
will pick him
ب-ع-ض
![]()
بَعۡضُ
بَعْضُ
baʿḍu
some
س-ي-ر
![]()
ٱلسَّيَّارَةِ
السَّیَّارَةِ
s-sayārati
[the] caravan
ا-ن
![]()
إِن
اِنْ
in
if
ك-و-ن
![]()
كُنتُمۡ
كُنْتُمْ
kuntum
you are
ف-ع-ل
![]()
فَٰعِلِينَ
فٰعِلِیْنَ
fāʿilīna
doing."
One of them said, “Don’t kill Joseph, but throw him to the bottom of the well where some caravan will pick him up, if you are going to act.”
