upon
ا-ن-س

ٱلۡإِنسَٰنِ
الْاِنْسَانِ
l-insāni
man
ح-ي-ن

حِينٞ
حِیْنٌ
ḥīnun
a period
م-ن
![]()
مِّنَ
مِّنَ
mina
of
د-ه-ر
![]()
ٱلدَّهۡرِ
الدَّهْرِ
d-dahri
time
ل-م
![]()
لَمۡ
لَمْ
lam
not
ك-و-ن
![]()
يَكُن
یَكُنْ
yakun
he was
ش-ي-ا
![]()
شَيۡـٔٗا
شَیْـًٔا
shayan
a thing
ذ-ك-ر
![]()
مَّذۡكُورًا
مَّذْكُوْرًا
madhkūran
mentioned?
Hasn’t there been a time when man was nothing worth mention,

Indeed, We
خ-ل-ق

خَلَقۡنَا
خَلَقْنَا
khalaqnā
[We] created
ا-ن-س
![]()
ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ
الْاِنْسَانَ
l-insāna
man
م-ن
![]()
مِن
مِنْ
min
from
ن-ط-ف
![]()
نُّطۡفَةٍ
نُّطْفَةٍ
nuṭ'fatin
a semen-drop,
م-ش-ج
![]()
أَمۡشَاجٖ
اَمْشَاجٍ ۖۗ—
amshājin
a mixture,
ب-ل-و
![]()
نَّبۡتَلِيهِ
نَّبْتَلِیْهِ
nabtalīhi
(that) We test him;
ج-ع-ل
![]()
فَجَعَلۡنَٰهُ
فَجَعَلْنٰهُ
fajaʿalnāhu
so
س-م-ع
![]()
سَمِيعَۢا
سَمِیْعًا
samīʿan
hearing
ب-ص-ر
![]()
بَصِيرًا
بَصِیْرًا
baṣīran
and sight.
for We made man from a mixed drop, in order to test him, giving him hearing and sight.

ا-ن-ن

إِنَّا
اِنَّا
innā
Indeed, We
ه-د-ي

هَدَيۡنَٰهُ
هَدَیْنٰهُ
hadaynāhu
guided him
س-ب-ل
![]()
ٱلسَّبِيلَ
السَّبِیْلَ
s-sabīla
(to) the way
ا-م-م-ا
![]()
إِمَّا
اِمَّا
immā
whether
ش-ك-ر
![]()
شَاكِرٗا
شَاكِرًا
shākiran
(he) be grateful
ا-م-م-ا
![]()
وَإِمَّا
وَّاِمَّا
wa-immā
and whether
ك-ف-ر
![]()
كَفُورًا
كَفُوْرًا
kafūran
(he) be ungrateful.
We have shown him the way, whether he is grateful or ungrateful:

ا-ن-ن

إِنَّآ
اِنَّاۤ
innā
Indeed, We
ع-ت-د
![]()
أَعۡتَدۡنَا
اَعْتَدْنَا
aʿtadnā
[We] have prepared
ك-ف-ر
![]()
لِلۡكَٰفِرِينَ
لِلْكٰفِرِیْنَ
lil'kāfirīna
for the disbelievers
س-ل-س-ل
![]()
سَلَٰسِلَاْ
سَلٰسِلَاۡ
salāsilā
chains
غ-ل-ل
![]()
وَأَغۡلَٰلٗا
وَاَغْلٰلًا
wa-aghlālan
and shackles
س-ع-ر
![]()
وَسَعِيرًا
وَّسَعِیْرًا
wasaʿīran
and a Blazing Fire.
We have prepared chains, yokes, and fire for the ungrateful.

ا-ن-ن

inna
Indeed,
ب-ر-ر

ٱلۡأَبۡرَارَ
الْاَبْرَارَ
l-abrāra
the righteous
ش-ر-ب

يَشۡرَبُونَ
یَشْرَبُوْنَ
yashrabūna
will drink
م-ن
![]()
مِن
مِنْ
min
from
ك-ا-س
![]()
كَأۡسٖ
كَاْسٍ
kasin
a cup,
ك-و-ن
![]()
كَانَ
كَانَ
kāna
is
م-ز-ج
![]()
مِزَاجُهَا
مِزَاجُهَا
mizājuhā
its mixture
ك-ف-ر
![]()
كَافُورًا
كَافُوْرًا
kāfūran
(of),
As for the upright, they will drink from a cup of a blend of camphor,

عَیْنًا
ʿaynan
A spring -
ش-ر-ب

يَشۡرَبُ
یَّشْرَبُ
yashrabu
will drink
ب

بِهَا
بِهَا
bihā
from it
ع-ب-د
![]()
عِبَادُ
عِبَادُ
ʿibādu
(the) slaves
ا-ل-ه
![]()
ٱللَّهِ
اللّٰهِ
l-lahi
(of) Allah;
ف-ج-ر
![]()
يُفَجِّرُونَهَا
یُفَجِّرُوْنَهَا
yufajjirūnahā
causing it to gush forth
ف-ج-ر
![]()
تَفۡجِيرٗا
تَفْجِیْرًا
tafjīran
abundantly.
a source from which devotees of God drink, making it flow freely.

و-ف-ي

يُوفُونَ
یُوْفُوْنَ
yūfūna
They fulfill
ن-ذ-ر
![]()
بِٱلنَّذۡرِ
بِالنَّذْرِ
bin-nadhri
the vows
خ-و-ف
![]()
وَيَخَافُونَ
وَیَخَافُوْنَ
wayakhāfūna
and fear
ي-و-م
![]()
يَوۡمٗا
یَوْمًا
yawman
a Day -
ك-و-ن
![]()
كَانَ
كَانَ
kāna
(which) is
ش-ر-ر
![]()
شَرُّهُۥ
شَرُّهٗ
sharruhu
its evil
ط-ي-ر
![]()
مُسۡتَطِيرٗا
مُسْتَطِیْرًا
mus'taṭīran
widespread.
They fulfill vows, dreading a day whose ill is impending;

ط-ع-م

وَيُطۡعِمُونَ
وَیُطْعِمُوْنَ
wayuṭ'ʿimūna
And they feed
ط-ع-م

ٱلطَّعَامَ
الطَّعَامَ
ṭ-ṭaʿāma
the food
ع-ل-ي
![]()
عَلَىٰ
عَلٰی
ʿalā
in spite of
ح-ب-ب
![]()
حُبِّهِۦ
حُبِّهٖ
ḥubbihi
love (for) it,
س-ك-ن
![]()
مِسۡكِينٗا
مِسْكِیْنًا
mis'kīnan
(to the) needy,
ي-ت-م
![]()
وَيَتِيمٗا
وَّیَتِیْمًا
wayatīman
and (the) orphan
ا-س-ر
![]()
وَأَسِيرًا
وَّاَسِیْرًا
wa-asīran
and (the) captive,
and they feed, for love of God, the poor, the orphan, and the captive:

ا-ن-ن-م

إِنَّمَا
اِنَّمَا
innamā
"Only
ط-ع-م
![]()
نُطۡعِمُكُمۡ
نُطْعِمُكُمْ
nuṭ'ʿimukum
we feed you
و-ج-ه

لِوَجۡهِ
لِوَجْهِ
liwajhi
for (the) Countenance
ا-ل-ه
![]()
ٱللَّهِ
اللّٰهِ
l-lahi
(of) Allah.
ل-ا
![]()
لَا
لَا
lā
Not
ر-و-د
![]()
نُرِيدُ
نُرِیْدُ
nurīdu
we desire
م-ن
![]()
مِنكُمۡ
مِنْكُمْ
minkum
from you
ج-ز-ي
![]()
جَزَآءٗ
جَزَآءً
jazāan
any reward
ل-ا
![]()
وَلَا
وَّلَا
walā
and not
ش-ك-ر
![]()
شُكُورًا
شُكُوْرًا
shukūran
thanks.
“We are feeding you solely for the sake of God; we want no compensation from you, not even thanks.

our Lord

a Day -
ع-ب-س

عَبُوسٗا
عَبُوْسًا
ʿabūsan
harsh
ق-م-ط-ر
![]()
قَمۡطَرِيرٗا
قَمْطَرِیْرًا
qamṭarīran
and distressful."
“For we dread a dismal day of calamity from our Lord.”
