80:1
ع-ب-س
عَبَسَ
عَبَسَ
ʿabasa
He frowned
و-ل-ي
وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ
وَتَوَلّٰۤی
watawallā
and turned away,
He frowned and turned away

ا-ن
أَن
اَنْ
an
Because
ج-ي-ا
جَآءَهُ
جَآءَهُ
jāahu
came to him
ع-م-ي
ٱلۡأَعۡمَىٰ
الْاَعْمٰى
l-aʿmā
the blind man.
because a blind man came to him.

م-ا
وَمَا
وَمَا
wamā
But what
د-ر-ي
يُدۡرِيكَ
یُدْرِیْكَ
yud'rīka
would make you know
ل-ع-ل-ل
لَعَلَّهُۥ
لَعَلَّهٗ
laʿallahu
that he might
ز-ك-و
يَزَّكَّىٰٓ
یَزَّ
yazzakkā
purify himself,
But what would have let you know he might strive to be pure,

ا-و
أَوۡ
اَوْ
aw
Or
ذ-ك-ر
يَذَّكَّرُ
یَذَّكَّرُ
yadhakkaru
be reminded
ن-ف-ع
فَتَنفَعَهُ
فَتَنْفَعَهُ
fatanfaʿahu
so would benefit him
ذ-ك-ر
ٱلذِّكۡرَىٰٓ
الذِّكْرٰى
dh-dhik'rā
the reminder?
or take heed, so the reminder would be of benefit to him?

ا-م-م-ا
أَمَّا
اَمَّا
ammā
As for
م-ن
مَنِ
مَنِ
mani
(him) who
غ-ن-ي
ٱسۡتَغۡنَىٰ
اسْتَغْنٰى
is'taghnā
considers himself free from need,
As for one who’s rich,

ا-ن-ت
فَأَنتَ
فَاَنْتَ
fa-anta
So you
ل
لَهُۥ
لَهٗ
lahu
to him
ص-د-ي
تَصَدَّىٰ
تَصَدّٰى
taṣaddā
give attention.
you occupy yourself with him,

م-ا
وَمَا
وَمَا
wamā
And not
ع-ل-ي
عَلَيۡكَ
عَلَیْكَ
ʿalayka
upon you
ا-ل-ل-ا
أَلَّا
اَلَّا
allā
that not
ز-ك-و
يَزَّكَّىٰ
یَزَّكّٰى
yazzakkā
he purifies himself.
though you’re not responsible if he doesn’t strive to be pure.

ا-م-م-ا
وَأَمَّا
وَاَمَّا
wa-ammā
But as for
م-ن
مَن
مَنْ
man
(he) who
ج-ي-ا
جَآءَكَ
جَآءَكَ
jāaka
came to you
س-ع-ي
يَسۡعَىٰ
یَسْعٰى
yasʿā
striving,
But one who came to you striving

وَهُوَ
وَهُوَ
wahuwa
While he
خ-ش-ي
يَخۡشَىٰ
یَخْشٰى
yakhshā
fears,
in awe,

80:10
ا-ن-ت
فَأَنتَ
فَاَنْتَ
fa-anta
But you
ع-ن
عَنۡهُ
عَنْهُ
ʿanhu
from
ل-ه-و
تَلَهَّىٰ
تَلَهّٰى
talahhā
(are) distracted.
to him you were inattentive.
