يَٰٓأَيُّهَا
یٰۤاَیُّهَا
yāayyuhā
O
ن-و-س

ٱلنَّاسُ
النَّاسُ
n-nāsu
mankind!
و-ق-ي
![]()
ٱتَّقُواْ
اتَّقُوْا
ittaqū
Fear
ر-ب-ب
![]()
رَبَّكُمُ
رَبَّكُمُ
rabbakumu
your Lord
ا-ل-ل-ذ
![]()
ٱلَّذِي
الَّذِیْ
alladhī
the One Who
خ-ل-ق
![]()
خَلَقَكُم
خَلَقَكُمْ
khalaqakum
created you
م-ن
![]()
مِّن
مِّنْ
min
from
ن-ف-س
![]()
نَّفۡسٖ
نَّفْسٍ
nafsin
a soul
و-ح-د
![]()
وَٰحِدَةٖ
وَّاحِدَةٍ
wāḥidatin
single
خ-ل-ق
![]()
وَخَلَقَ
وَّخَلَقَ
wakhalaqa
and created
م-ن
![]()
مِنۡهَا
مِنْهَا
min'hā
from it
ز-و-ج
![]()
زَوۡجَهَا
زَوْجَهَا
zawjahā
its mate
ب-ث-ث
![]()
وَبَثَّ
وَبَثَّ
wabatha
and dispersed
م-ن
![]()
مِنۡهُمَا
مِنْهُمَا
min'humā
from both of them
ر-ج-ل
![]()
رِجَالٗا
رِجَالًا
rijālan
many men
ك-ث-ر
![]()
كَثِيرٗا
كَثِیْرًا
kathīran
many men
ن-س-و
![]()
وَنِسَآءٗۚ
وَّنِسَآءً ۚ—
wanisāan
and women.
و-ق-ي
![]()
وَٱتَّقُواْ
وَاتَّقُوا
wa-ittaqū
And fear
ا-ل-ه
![]()
ٱللَّهَ
اللّٰهَ
l-laha
Allah
ا-ل-ل-ذ
![]()
ٱلَّذِي
الَّذِیْ
alladhī
(through) Whom
س-ا-ل
![]()
تَسَآءَلُونَ
تَسَآءَلُوْنَ
tasāalūna
you ask
ب
![]()
بِهِۦ
بِهٖ
bihi
[with it]
ر-ح-م
![]()
وَٱلۡأَرۡحَامَۚ
وَالْاَرْحَامَ ؕ—
wal-arḥāma
and the wombs.
ا-ن-ن
![]()
إِنَّ
اِنَّ
inna
Indeed,
ا-ل-ه
![]()
ٱللَّهَ
اللّٰهَ
l-laha
Allah
ك-و-ن
![]()
كَانَ
كَانَ
kāna
is
ع-ل-ي
![]()
عَلَيۡكُمۡ
عَلَیْكُمْ
ʿalaykum
over you
ر-ق-ب
![]()
رَقِيبٗا
رَقِیْبًا
raqīban
Ever-Watchful.
O humankind, be conscious of your Lord, who created you from one soul, and created its mate from it, and propagated from the two many men and women. And be conscious of God, by whom you ask of each other; and of relationships; for God is watching you.

ا-ت-ي

And give

ٱلۡيَتَٰمَىٰٓ
الْیَتٰمٰۤی
l-yatāmā
(to) the orphans
م-و-ل

أَمۡوَٰلَهُمۡۖ
اَمْوَالَهُمْ
amwālahum
their wealth,
ل-ا
![]()
وَلَا
وَلَا
walā
and (do) not
ب-د-ل
![]()
تَتَبَدَّلُواْ
تَتَبَدَّلُوا
tatabaddalū
exchange
خ-ب-ث
![]()
ٱلۡخَبِيثَ
الْخَبِیْثَ
l-khabītha
the bad
ط-ي-ب
![]()
بِٱلطَّيِّبِۖ
بِالطَّیِّبِ ۪—
biṭ-ṭayibi
with the good,
ل-ا
![]()
وَلَا
وَلَا
walā
and (do) not
ا-ك-ل
![]()
تَأۡكُلُوٓاْ
تَاْكُلُوْۤا
takulū
consume
م-و-ل
![]()
أَمۡوَٰلَهُمۡ
اَمْوَالَهُمْ
amwālahum
their wealth
ا-ل-ي
![]()
إِلَىٰٓ
اِلٰۤی
ilā
with
م-و-ل
![]()
أَمۡوَٰلِكُمۡۚ
اَمْوَالِكُمْ ؕ—
amwālikum
your wealth.
ا-ن-ن
![]()
إِنَّهُۥ
اِنَّهٗ
innahu
Indeed, it
ك-و-ن
![]()
كَانَ
كَانَ
kāna
is
ح-و-ب
![]()
حُوبٗا
حُوْبًا
ḥūban
a sin
ك-ب-ر
![]()
كَبِيرٗا
كَبِیْرًا
kabīran
great.
Give orphans their property, without exchanging bad for good; and do not consume their property commingled with your own, for that is a serious sin.

And if

you fear

تُقۡسِطُواْ
تُقْسِطُوْا
tuq'siṭū
you will be able to do
ف-ي

فِي
فِی
fī
with
ي-ت-م

ٱلۡيَتَٰمَىٰ
الْیَتٰمٰی
l-yatāmā
the orphans,
ن-ك-ح
![]()
فَٱنكِحُواْ
فَانْكِحُوْا
fa-inkiḥū
then marry
م-ا
![]()
مَا
مَا
mā
what
ط-ي-ب
![]()
طَابَ
طَابَ
ṭāba
seems suitable
ل
![]()
لَكُم
لَكُمْ
lakum
to you
م-ن
![]()
مِّنَ
مِّنَ
mina
from
ن-س-و
![]()
ٱلنِّسَآءِ
النِّسَآءِ
n-nisāi
the women
ث-ن-ي
![]()
مَثۡنَىٰ
مَثْنٰی
mathnā
two,
ث-ل-ث
![]()
وَثُلَٰثَ
وَثُلٰثَ
wathulātha
or three,
ر-ب-ع
![]()
وَرُبَٰعَۖ
وَرُبٰعَ ۚ—
warubāʿa
or four.
ا-ن
![]()
فَإِنۡ
فَاِنْ
fa-in
But if
خ-و-ف
![]()
خِفۡتُمۡ
خِفْتُمْ
khif'tum
you fear
ا-ل-ل-ا
![]()
أَلَّا
اَلَّا
allā
that not
ع-د-ل
![]()
تَعۡدِلُواْ
تَعْدِلُوْا
taʿdilū
you can do justice
و-ح-د
![]()
فَوَٰحِدَةً
فَوَاحِدَةً
fawāḥidatan
then (marry) one
ا-و
![]()
أَوۡ
اَوْ
aw
or
م-ا
![]()
مَا
مَا
mā
what
م-ل-ك
![]()
مَلَكَتۡ
مَلَكَتْ
malakat
possesses
ي-م-ن
![]()
أَيۡمَٰنُكُمۡۚ
اَیْمَانُكُمْ ؕ—
aymānukum
your right hand.
ذ-ل-ك
![]()
ذَٰلِكَ
ذٰلِكَ
dhālika
That
د-ن-و
![]()
أَدۡنَىٰٓ
اَدْنٰۤی
adnā
(is) more appropriate
ا-ل-ل-ا
![]()
أَلَّا
اَلَّا
allā
that you (may) not oppress.
ع-و-ل
![]()
تَعُولُواْ
تَعُوْلُوْا
taʿūlū
that you (may) not oppress.
And if you fear you cannot do justice by the orphans, then marry women who please you, two, three, or four; but if you fear you won’t be equitable, then one, or a legitimate bondmaid of yours. That way it is easier for you not to go wrong.

نِحْلَةً ؕ—
niḥ'latan
graciously.
ا-ن

فَإِن
فَاِنْ
fa-in
But if
ط-ي-ب
![]()
طِبۡنَ
طِبْنَ
ṭib'na
they remit
ل
![]()
لَكُمۡ
لَكُمْ
lakum
to you
ع-ن
![]()
عَن
عَنْ
ʿan
anything
ش-ي-ا
![]()
شَيۡءٖ
شَیْءٍ
shayin
anything
م-ن
![]()
مِّنۡهُ
مِّنْهُ
min'hu
of it
ن-ف-س
![]()
نَفۡسٗا
نَفْسًا
nafsan
(on their) own,
ا-ك-ل
![]()
فَكُلُوهُ
فَكُلُوْهُ
fakulūhu
then eat it
ه-ن-ي
![]()
هَنِيٓـٔٗا
هَنِیْٓـًٔا
hanīan
(in) satisfaction
م-ر-ا
![]()
مَّرِيٓـٔٗا
مَّرِیْٓـًٔا
marīan
(and) ease.
And give them their dowries as a gift. But if they favor you with anything from it of their own accord, then enjoy it as wholesome and healthy.

the foolish

أَمۡوَٰلَكُمُ
اَمْوَالَكُمُ
amwālakumu
your wealth
ا-ل-ل-ت

ٱلَّتِي
الَّتِیْ
allatī
which
ج-ع-ل
![]()
جَعَلَ
جَعَلَ
jaʿala
Allah made
ا-ل-ه
![]()
ٱللَّهُ
اللّٰهُ
l-lahu
Allah made
ل
![]()
لَكُمۡ
لَكُمْ
lakum
for you
ق-و-م
![]()
قِيَٰمٗا
قِیٰمًا
qiyāman
a means of support
ر-ز-ق
![]()
وَٱرۡزُقُوهُمۡ
وَّارْزُقُوْهُمْ
wa-ur'zuqūhum
(but) provide (for) them
ف-ي
![]()
فِيهَا
فِیْهَا
fīhā
with it
ك-س-و
![]()
وَٱكۡسُوهُمۡ
وَاكْسُوْهُمْ
wa-ik'sūhum
and clothe them
ق-و-ل
![]()
وَقُولُواْ
وَقُوْلُوْا
waqūlū
and speak
ل
![]()
لَهُمۡ
لَهُمْ
lahum
to them
ق-و-ل
![]()
قَوۡلٗا
قَوْلًا
qawlan
words
ع-ر-ف
![]()
مَّعۡرُوفٗا
مَّعْرُوْفًا
maʿrūfan
(of) kindness.
Do not give the feeble-minded your property, which God has made a means of support for you; but provide for them with it, and clothe them; and speak to them in considerate terms.

And test
ي-ت-م

ٱلۡيَتَٰمَىٰ
الْیَتٰمٰی

the orphans
ح-ت-ت-ي

حَتَّىٰٓ
حَتّٰۤی
ḥattā
until
ا-ذ-ا
![]()
إِذَا
اِذَا
idhā
[when]
ب-ل-غ
![]()
بَلَغُواْ
بَلَغُوا
balaghū
they reach[ed]
ن-ك-ح
![]()
ٱلنِّكَاحَ
النِّكَاحَ ۚ—
n-nikāḥa
(the age of) marriage,
ا-ن
![]()
فَإِنۡ
فَاِنْ
fa-in
then if
ا-ن-س
![]()
ءَانَسۡتُم
اٰنَسْتُمْ
ānastum
you perceive
م-ن
![]()
مِّنۡهُمۡ
مِّنْهُمْ
min'hum
in them
ر-ش-د
![]()
رُشۡدٗا
رُشْدًا
rush'dan
sound judgement
د-ف-ع
![]()
فَٱدۡفَعُوٓاْ
فَادْفَعُوْۤا
fa-id'faʿū
then deliver
ا-ل-ي
![]()
إِلَيۡهِمۡ
اِلَیْهِمْ
ilayhim
to them
م-و-ل
![]()
أَمۡوَٰلَهُمۡۖ
اَمْوَالَهُمْ ۚ—
amwālahum
their wealth.
ل-ا
![]()
وَلَا
وَلَا
walā
And (do) not
ا-ك-ل
![]()
تَأۡكُلُوهَآ
تَاْكُلُوْهَاۤ
takulūhā
eat it
س-ر-ف
![]()
إِسۡرَافٗا
اِسْرَافًا
is'rāfan
extravagantly
ب-د-ر
![]()
وَبِدَارًا
وَّبِدَارًا
wabidāran
and hastily
ا-ن
![]()
أَن
اَنْ
an
(fearing) that
ك-ب-ر
![]()
يَكۡبَرُواْۚ
یَّكْبَرُوْا ؕ—
yakbarū
they will grow up.
م-ن
![]()
وَمَن
وَمَنْ
waman
And whoever
ك-و-ن
![]()
كَانَ
كَانَ
kāna
is
غ-ن-ي
![]()
غَنِيّٗا
غَنِیًّا
ghaniyyan
rich
ع-ف-ف
![]()
فَلۡيَسۡتَعۡفِفۡۖ
فَلْیَسْتَعْفِفْ ۚ—
falyastaʿfif
then he should refrain,
م-ن
![]()
وَمَن
وَمَنْ
waman
and whoever
ك-و-ن
![]()
كَانَ
كَانَ
kāna
is
ف-ق-ر
![]()
فَقِيرٗا
فَقِیْرًا
faqīran
poor
ا-ك-ل
![]()
فَلۡيَأۡكُلۡ
فَلْیَاْكُلْ
falyakul
then let him eat (of it)
ع-ر-ف
![]()
بِٱلۡمَعۡرُوفِۚ
بِالْمَعْرُوْفِ ؕ—
bil-maʿrūfi
in a fair manner.
ا-ذ-ا
![]()
فَإِذَا
فَاِذَا
fa-idhā
Then when
د-ف-ع
![]()
دَفَعۡتُمۡ
دَفَعْتُمْ
dafaʿtum
you deliver
ا-ل-ي
![]()
إِلَيۡهِمۡ
اِلَیْهِمْ
ilayhim
to them
م-و-ل
![]()
أَمۡوَٰلَهُمۡ
اَمْوَالَهُمْ
amwālahum
their wealth
ش-ه-د
![]()
فَأَشۡهِدُواْ
فَاَشْهِدُوْا
fa-ashhidū
then take witnesses
ع-ل-ي
![]()
عَلَيۡهِمۡۚ
عَلَیْهِمْ ؕ—
ʿalayhim
on them.
ك-ف-ي
![]()
وَكَفَىٰ
وَكَفٰی
wakafā
And Allah is sufficient
ا-ل-ه
![]()
بِٱللَّهِ
بِاللّٰهِ
bil-lahi
And Allah is sufficient
ح-س-ب
![]()
حَسِيبٗا
حَسِیْبًا
ḥasīban
(as) a Reckoner.
And test the orphans until they have reached the age of marriage; if you find integrity in them, then hand over their property to them. And do not use it up in extravagance, or in haste before they grow up. And one who is rich should abstain, while one who is poor may use it fairly. Then when you turn their property over to them, have it witnessed for them, though God is sufficient in accounting.

وَالْاَقْرَبُوْنَ ۪—

and the near relatives

and for the women
ن-ص-ب

نَصِيبٞ
نَصِیْبٌ

(is) left

ق-ر-ب

وَٱلۡأَقۡرَبُونَ
وَالْاَقْرَبُوْنَ
wal-aqrabūna
and the near relatives
م-م-ا
![]()
مِمَّا
مِمَّا
mimmā
of what
ق-ل-ل
![]()
قَلَّ
قَلَّ
qalla
(is) little
م-ن
![]()
مِنۡهُ
مِنْهُ
min'hu
of it
ا-و
![]()
أَوۡ
اَوْ
aw
or
ك-ث-ر
![]()
كَثُرَۚ
كَثُرَ ؕ—
kathura
much -
ن-ص-ب
![]()
نَصِيبٗا
نَصِیْبًا
naṣīban
a portion
ف-ر-ض
![]()
مَّفۡرُوضٗا
مَّفْرُوْضًا
mafrūḍan
obligatory.
Men are to have a portion of what is left by their parents and closest kin; and women are also to have a portion of what is left by their parents and closest kin— an assigned portion of whatever there is of it, be it a little or a lot.

And when

حَضَرَ
حَضَرَ
ḥaḍara
present
ق-س-م

ٱلۡقِسۡمَةَ
الْقِسْمَةَ
l-qis'mata
(at) the (time of) division
ا-و-ل
![]()
أُوْلُواْ
اُولُوا
ulū
the relatives
ق-ر-ب
![]()
ٱلۡقُرۡبَىٰ
الْقُرْبٰی
l-qur'bā
the relatives
ي-ت-م
![]()
وَٱلۡيَتَٰمَىٰ
وَالْیَتٰمٰی
wal-yatāmā
and the orphans
س-ك-ن
![]()
وَٱلۡمَسَٰكِينُ
وَالْمَسٰكِیْنُ
wal-masākīnu
and the poor,
ر-ز-ق
![]()
فَٱرۡزُقُوهُم
فَارْزُقُوْهُمْ
fa-ur'zuqūhum
then provide them
م-ن
![]()
مِّنۡهُ
مِّنْهُ
min'hu
from it
ق-و-ل
![]()
وَقُولُواْ
وَقُوْلُوْا
waqūlū
and speak
ل
![]()
لَهُمۡ
لَهُمْ
lahum
to them
ق-و-ل
![]()
قَوۡلٗا
قَوْلًا
qawlan
words
ع-ر-ف
![]()
مَّعۡرُوفٗا
مَّعْرُوْفًا
maʿrūfan
(of) kindness.
And if relatives, orphans, or paupers attend the division, then provide for them from it, and speak to them in considerate terms.

walyakhsha
And let fear -
ا-ل-ل-ذ

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who,

law
if
ت-ر-ك

تَرَكُواْ
تَرَكُوْا
tarakū
they left
م-ن

مِنۡ
مِنْ
min
behind
خ-ل-ف
![]()
خَلۡفِهِمۡ
خَلْفِهِمْ
khalfihim
behind
ذ-ر-ر
![]()
ذُرِّيَّةٗ
ذُرِّیَّةً
dhurriyyatan
offspring
ض-ع-ف
![]()
ضِعَٰفًا
ضِعٰفًا
ḍiʿāfan
weak
خ-و-ف
![]()
خَافُواْ
خَافُوْا
khāfū
(and) they would have feared
ع-ل-ي
![]()
عَلَيۡهِمۡ
عَلَیْهِمْ ۪—
ʿalayhim
about them.
و-ق-ي
![]()
فَلۡيَتَّقُواْ
فَلْیَتَّقُوا
falyattaqū
So let them fear
ا-ل-ه
![]()
ٱللَّهَ
اللّٰهَ
l-laha
Allah
ق-و-ل
![]()
وَلۡيَقُولُواْ
وَلْیَقُوْلُوْا
walyaqūlū
and let them speak
ق-و-ل
![]()
قَوۡلٗا
قَوْلًا
qawlan
words
س-د-د
![]()
سَدِيدًا
سَدِیْدًا
sadīdan
appropriate.
And let those be apprehensive who if they left helpless children behind would fear for them; and let them be conscious of God, and let them speak considerate words.

Indeed,

l-yatāmā
(of) the orphans
ظ-ل-م

ظُلۡمًا
ظُلْمًا
ẓul'man
wrongfully,
ا-ن-ن-م
![]()
إِنَّمَا
اِنَّمَا
innamā
only
ا-ك-ل
![]()
يَأۡكُلُونَ
یَاْكُلُوْنَ
yakulūna
they consume
ف-ي
![]()
فِي
فِیْ
fī
in
ب-ط-ن
![]()
بُطُونِهِمۡ
بُطُوْنِهِمْ
buṭūnihim
their bellies
ن-و-ر
![]()
نَارٗاۖ
نَارًا ؕ—
nāran
fire,
ص-ل-ي
![]()
وَسَيَصۡلَوۡنَ
وَسَیَصْلَوْنَ
wasayaṣlawna
and they will be burned
س-ع-ر
![]()
سَعِيرٗا
سَعِیْرًا
saʿīran
(in) a Blazing Fire.
For those who unjustly consume the property of orphans only ingest fire; and they will be exposed to a blaze.
