یٰۤاَیُّهَا
yāayyuhā
O you
ز-م-ل

ٱلۡمُزَّمِّلُ
الْمُزَّمِّلُ
l-muzamilu
who wraps himself!
You wrapping yourself,

Stand

(in) the night,

a little,
stand through the night, except a little—

ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ
الْقُرْاٰنَ
l-qur'āna
the Quran
ر-ت-ل

تَرۡتِيلًا
تَرْتِیْلًا
tartīlan
(with) measured rhythmic recitation.
or more; and chant the Qur’an rhythmically:

Indeed, We

will cast

ʿalayka
upon you
ق-و-ل

قَوۡلٗا
قَوْلًا
qawlan
a Word
ث-ق-ل

ثَقِيلًا
ثَقِیْلًا
thaqīlan
heavy.
for We will send you a weighty word.

Indeed,

(the) rising

(at) the night,
ه-ي

هِيَ
هِیَ
hiya
it

أَشَدُّ
اَشَدُّ
ashaddu
(is) very hard
و-ط-ا

وَطۡـٔٗا
وَطْاً
waṭan
and most potent
ق-و-م
![]()
وَأَقۡوَمُ
وَّاَقْوَمُ
wa-aqwamu
and more suitable
ق-و-ل
![]()
قِيلًا
قِیْلًا
qīlan
(for) Word.
Indeed, rising by night is most intense as a discipline, and most appropriate for receptivity to the Word.

(is) occupation
ط-و-ل

طَوِيلٗا
طَوِیْلًا
ṭawīlan
prolonged.
You do have a long course during the day,

wa-udh'kuri
And remember
س-م-و

ٱسۡمَ
اسْمَ
is'ma
(the) name
ر-ب-ب

رَبِّكَ
رَبِّكَ
rabbika
(of) your Lord
ب-ت-ل
![]()
وَتَبَتَّلۡ
وَتَبَتَّلْ
watabattal
and devote yourself
ا-ل-ي
![]()
إِلَيۡهِ
اِلَیْهِ
ilayhi
to Him
ب-ت-ل
![]()
تَبۡتِيلٗا
تَبْتِیْلًا
tabtīlan
(with) devotion.
yet remember the name of God, and devote yourself wholly to God,

rabbu
(The) Lord
ش-ر-ق

ٱلۡمَشۡرِقِ
الْمَشْرِقِ
l-mashriqi
(of) the east
غ-ر-ب

وَٱلۡمَغۡرِبِ
وَالْمَغْرِبِ
wal-maghribi
and the west;
ل-ا
![]()
لَآ
لَاۤ
lā
(there is) no
ا-ل-ه
![]()
إِلَٰهَ
اِلٰهَ
ilāha
god
ا-ل-ل-ا
![]()
إِلَّا
اِلَّا
illā
except
ه-و
![]()
هُوَ
هُوَ
huwa
Him,
ا-خ-ذ
![]()
فَٱتَّخِذۡهُ
فَاتَّخِذْهُ
fa-ittakhidh'hu
so take Him
و-ك-ل
![]()
وَكِيلٗا
وَكِیْلًا
wakīlan
(as) Disposer of Affairs.
Lord of the East and the West— there is no other deity, so take God as a guardian,

وَٱصۡبِرۡ
وَاصْبِرْ
wa-iṣ'bir
And be patient
ع-ل-ي

عَلَىٰ
عَلٰی
ʿalā
over

mā
what
ق-و-ل

يَقُولُونَ
یَقُوْلُوْنَ
yaqūlūna
they say,
ه-ج-ر
![]()
وَٱهۡجُرۡهُمۡ
وَاهْجُرْهُمْ
wa-uh'jur'hum
and avoid them,
ه-ج-ر
![]()
هَجۡرٗا
هَجْرًا
hajran
an avoidance
ج-م-ل
![]()
جَمِيلٗا
جَمِیْلًا
jamīlan
gracious.
and endure what they say patiently, and remain aloof from them with a graceful detachment.
